Sleep, Dearie, Sleep for Wind Ensemble
This piece was commissioned by the Venice (FL) High School Band, under the direction of David Wing, in 2024. The work is inspired by the traditional Scottish pipe tune "Sleep, Dearie, Sleep." This lament, used as a taps signal by Highland army regiments, gained prominence during the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022. The tune itself is a poignant combination of lullaby and lament, representing solace and life's finality.
